Just over a month ago, Netflix premiered their take on the classic sci-fi adventure series Lost in Space. On top of garnering some pretty strong recommendations from audiences and critics alike, it’s spurred the internet to come to terms with its strange new hobby of making what should be unattractive characters into sex symbols. Lest this piece venture down the rabbit hole of odd attractions, let’s get to the point of this story.
The series features music composed Christopher Lennertz, the man behind other properties such as Supernatural, House of the Damned, Alien Terminator, and much, much more. Today, we wish to highlight Lennertz’ work by premiering a wonderful video that plays the track “Main Titles” from the soundtrack (Amazon) and sets it against visuals from both the show and from the recording booth so that we can see the performers bring the music to life.
Lennertz explains, “From the beginning, the producers wanted a classic main title sequence to play during at least some of the episodes. I wanted to tease the show’s premise with a hint of the Alpha Centauri program theme, then a full statement of the new Lost In Space theme, followed by a triumphant finish that showcased Williams’ original theme from season 3 that people are so familiar with. It was such an honor to be able to incorporate such a classic melody from the man who made me fall in love with film music from the very beginning. Zack and all the producers wanted the musical language of the Title sequence to set up the score for the rest of the story, and hopefully we did just that. It’s a big story with family and adventure at the very heart. I tried to be grand and heroic, with a nod to exploration, and a hint of nostalgia. I hope it resonates with fans of the show, both old and new!”
Lost in Space stars Toby Stephens, Molly Parker, Taylor Russell, Mina Sundwall, and Max Jenkins. Also in the show are Parker Posey and Ignacio Serricchio.
